‘We Fight Ourselves More Than We Deal With Issues’.- Ps. Josh Laryea On Gospel Musicians

Gospel musician and Pastor, Joshua Aphonso Tetteh Cheataa Laryea popularly known in the gospel industry as Josh Laryea believes gospel musicians in Ghana fight themselves rather than dealing with issues to help improve the gospel industry in Ghana.

Josh Laryea in an interview with Franky5 the host of ‘This is Gospel’ a power packed Christian Show on Hitz FM said the mindset of the average musician in Ghana should be closely looked at since they rather engage themselves in trivial issues that contribute to nothing.

According to him, for five years running he hasn’t received any royalty from the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO). And the last royalty he received royalty from GHAMRO was just GHC 250.00 for a whole year which he thinks is just disheartening.

“Nobody can make us what we have to be” he noted.

“We have to take our destinies into our own hands and decide how we want our profession to be for us” he further noted.

He sadly said he has released hit songs over the years but is not sure his great grand children will come and know about those songs all because there are no proper structures put in place to ensure that.

He also made it clear that some musicians also negotiate cheaply (in terms of money) for shows because of fear of losing the deal which he thinks is unfortunate.

Josh Laryea thinks if the gospel musicians become one and fight for a common course there will be improvement and structures will be worked on well since the government is not helping to build the industry.
