According to a recent report from the New York Post, Hillary Clinton’s campaign spent a record $1,2 billion to lose the 2016 election. For that kind of money she would have been able to buy a big chunk of the Trump Tower, making for an excellent investment for the years to come.
Donald Trump spent a meager $600 million for winning the election in an electoral college landslide, proving once again that the private sector is way more efficient in allocating and spending resources when compared to lifetime government employees.
Approximately ten percent of the $600 million spent by the Trump Team for winning the 2016’s presidential elections were The Donald’s own money, 66 million to be more accurate. To put things into perspective, there were 63 million people voting for Donald Trump, widely distributed across America, which translates into each vote costing roughly ten dollars, or $9.50 for math aficionados.
Hillary’s 65,5 million votes ended up costing $18,32 each. To quote from the New York Post:
Clinton’s expensive machine tore through $131.8 million in just the final weeks, finishing with about $839,000 on hand as of Nov. 28.
Team Trump spent $94.5 million in the home stretch — from Oct. 20 to Nov. 28 — and had $7.6 million left.
The figures include all spending by the campaigns, PACs and party committees.
Despite spending twice as much as The Donald and benefiting from a massive support from basically all major mainstream news media outlets, foreign leaders and even the Pope, with Barack Obama campaigning for her like no other president in US history, Hillary Clinton suffered a major defeat on November 8th.
Donald Trump ended up winning the Electoral College in a landslide with 306 electoral votes vs the 270 required for securing the Presidency and Clinton’s 232. Hillary’s pricey campaign machine spent $131 million in the final weeks alone, while Donald Trump’s team spent $94,5 million in the last month, from October 20th to November, ending up with $7.6 million left in their coffers.
President Elect Trump was criticized during the campaign due to his comments that there’s no need to raise/spend a billion dollars or more for winning an election and he was proved right again, as he did it with only $600 million. Also, Trump spent $34 million less of his own money than it was estimated in the beginning, when the expected figure was $100 million.
